DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) — A local organization is offering financial aid to support grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

In western Kentucky, Green River Area Development District (GRADD) is offering the funds through the Kentucky Family Caregiver Program.

Grandparents who meet the program’s requirements can receive up to $500 per grandchild per year, to help with things like school supplies, bedroom furniture, clothing, tutoring, counseling and respite care.

Program eligibility requirements include:

The grandparent must be the primary caregiver of a child or children who are no more than 18 years of age, and the parent of the child cannot be living in the home.

The grandparent must be a Kentucky resident.

The grandparent must be related by blood, marriage or adoption.

The household must meet the income eligibility guidelines of 150% of poverty for the household size for the current year.

“We want to help as many families as we can through this program,” says Lexi Camron, GRADD’s Family Caregiver Support Specialist. “Anyone who thinks they could benefit from the program; I highly encourage reaching out. We want to get this funding out into the community.”
