Soon, two volunteers rushed over to pick up Lunita.

They brought the little dog to a shelter and after that, Lunita was placed in a foster home while her information was posted online in the hopes of finding an adopter for her.

But nothing happened – until a family from the United States showed their interest!

A fundraiser was launched to pay for Lunita’s transfer to the United States.

Unfortunately, things did not go well for Lunita in her new adoptive home. Her new family didn’t know how to take proper care of the disabled dog.

It took serious effort and medical attention to treat all the ailments, but she finally recovered.

Along with her new family and good health, Lunita saw the snow for the first time, traveled a lot, made new friends, and even enjoyed birthday parties.

June 15, 2018 was one of the best days of Lunita’s life.

She turned 11 that day and had so much fun with all those people and doggies who came to wish her a happy birthday.

She even got to eat her special, dog-friendly cake.

However, shortly after celebrating her 11th anniversary, she fell sick and had to be admitted to ICU where she once again fought for her life.

Her prognosis wasn’t good, and her breathing was continuing to worsen.

Each time they took Lunita off of oxygen, her tongue would start to turn blue. So her family decided that it was time to let her go.

Lunita passed away surrounded by her loved ones.

“I will never forget her and how much she meant to me,” Lunita’s mom wrote on Facebook.

“She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”

Lunita’s story came to an end due to old age and struggles of the past.
