Donald Trump slammed for “dangerous” comment after Charlie Kirk killing

Millions of people worldwide are mourning the death of Charlie Kirk after the conservative political influencer was shot and killed during a Utah Valley University event on Wednesday.

Social media has been filled with rage over the killing, and President Donald Trump has made several comments, including those blaming “the left.”

Now, author Michael Wolff, who has written several books on Trump, has criticized the president for his responses after the shooting.

Donald Trump has been very invested in the killing of Charlie Kirk. The president made several statements about the conservative political influencer’s death, including announcing, before even the authorities had, that they had the suspected shooter in custody.

When Charlie Kirk was pronounced dead, Trump released a statement from the Oval Office.

“To my great fellow Americans, I am filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah. Charlie inspired millions, and tonight, all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror,” Trump said in a video published on social media.

“Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much, the United States of America. He fought for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people. He’s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.”

President Donald Trump blamed “radical left” after Charlie Kirk killing
While both Democratic and Republican leaders have condemned the murder of Kirk, the killing has led to political polarization on social media. Exactly why suspected shooter Tyler Robinson, said to have turned himself in on Friday, killed Kirk is not known, but even before his arrest was made, Trump blamed the “radical left” for obstructing the healing.

“I’d like to see it [the nation] heal,” the president told NBC News. “But we’re dealing with a radical left group of lunatics, and they don’t play fair and they never did.”

On Sunday, Trump announced that he would be attending the funeral of Charlie Kirk. Hhe also warned that left-leaning groups could be investigated after the killing, but didn’t specify which or how.

“If you look at the problem, the problem is on the left. It’s not on the right, like some people like to share the right, the problem we have is on the left,” Trump said. “And when you look at the agitator, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that’s the left. That’s not the right.”

While Trump has been very open with his views after the killing of Charlie Kirk, his statements haven’t solely been met with appreciation.

Trump accused of using Charlie Kirk’s death to “dangerous political use”
Appearing on the Daily Beast Podcast, author Michael Wolff, who’s written several books on the president, said that Trump has put Kirk’s death to “dangerous political use without knowing the facts.”

”Before we had a suspect, Donald Trump was out essentially saying that the left, the liberals, the Democrats, and anyone who might oppose him was complicit in the killing of Charlie Kirk. This is not only just specious [and] wrong, but it’s obviously irresponsible,” Wolff said.

“I can’t help feeling that perhaps part of the issue is that he can’t talk about it. He can’t come to grips with this. Maybe in his mind, inside Trump’s head, it’s too associated—and how could it not be—with his own assassination attempt,” he added.

“So I think in some way he is running from this death instead of trying to do what a leader ought to be doing at this point and… expressing grief and empathy here.”

Trump also announced that Kirk will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The president said the political influencer was a “giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people.

“Our prayers are with his wonderful wife, Erika and his beautiful children, fantastic people they are. We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on,” he added.
