In a video shared to social media, America’s TV dad John Amos, who is now eighty-three years old, revealed that he was in desperate need of half a million dollars after a “caregiver” took advantage of him. He has now come forward to reveal that the caregiver who took allegedly took advantage of him was his 56-year-old daughter, Shannon. Amos starred in such productions as Coming to America, The West Wing, and Good Times.
Amos came forward about the potential elderly abuse he has been enduring from his adult daughter in a TikTok video he shared through his son’s TikTok account. TikTok is a video-sharing app created by Chinese technology developers that could gather information about American consumers and trends. In the TikTok video, John Amos is lying in a hospital bed while his grown adult son, KC, stands next to him in solidarity.
In the video, Amos is on a phone call with someone who is thought to be an elderly abuse lawyer. Apparently, Amos is talking to the lawyer to straighten out a few things with how his adult daughter has been treating him in recent months.
In the TikTok video, Amos says, “I am very capable. And I am very confident in the doctors that I have here in the medical staff that my son has assembled around me. I feel very good about that.”
Amos added, “My main issues are that prior to entering the hospital, I had some ongoing issues with my daughter, who I feel has taken advantage of me. She would be the primary suspect if you would. I don’t know if that’s the right term or not. She is the one I would attribute my elderly abuse to. It’s definitely a case of elderly abuse.”
But why is Amos confined to a hospital bed? According to the celebrated and beloved actor, he was hospitalized due to “a couple of other issues” as well as water retention. However, he proclaims that at the age of eighty-three, his health concerns have all been “corrected or at least addressed,” which is good news for fans of John Amos.
Last week, Amos’s daughter, Shannon, shocked people on social media when she came forward to share that her elderly father had become the victim of elderly abuse at the hands of one of his caregivers. Now, Amos is coming forward to say that that caregiver was actually his adult daughter, Shannon, the whistleblower herself.
“The past two weeks shattered our world. My dad is a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation. We are collaborating with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and local authorities, determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. Legal assistance is crucial to ensure their prosecution and protect my father’s future. His home, stripped bare, necessitates a safe space for his return,” Shannon said.
Amos’s daughter launched a GoFundMe campaign looking to raise $500,000 in donations.
“Every donation will be directed to a trust for my dad’s care, legal fees, and aftercare,” she wrote. “Help us win this battle, send love, and kindle hope for the day we can dance together again.”
