Notorious Serial Killer Gets Released From Prison Early For “Good Behavior”

A French serial killer who is believed to be responsible for a string of murders in Asia throughout the 1970s has been released from a Nepalese prison after demonstrating “good behavior” for some time. The killer, who was known as “The Serpent” during his rampage that ended the lives of many people, was the subject of a BBC drama about the string of murders he is accused of committing.

The killer, 78-year-old Charles Sobhraj, spent about twenty years behind bars in a Nepalese prison. Now that he has been released from prison in the middle of the Asian continent, he has left Nepal from Kathmandu to France and was not seen traveling with his wife. His wife is Nihita Biswas, and she is forty-four years younger than the convicted serial killer.

The murderous rampage that Sobhraj (pictured with his female accomplice in India in 1986) committed across Asia in the 1970s inspired the BBC drama “The Serpent. He was pictured being on a plane flying out of Nepal bound for his home country in France. He has maintained his innocence over the years and claims that he is prepared to “sue” people who were involved in putting him behind bars for his alleged crimes.

During the flight from Nepal to France, he spoke to someone who recorded his words. The convicted serial killer allegedly said during his cross-continent flight:

“When I came in [went to prison], I didn’t do anything. I am innocent in those cases, ok? So I don’t have to feel bad for that, or good. I am innocent. It was built on fake documents.”

He added: “The district judge, without calling a single witness … and without giving notice [to] the accused to present an argument, he wrote the verdict. I’m doing well. I have a lot of things to do, and I have to sue people, including in Nepal.”

Sobhraj was sentenced to prison for the rest of his life in Nepal. However, the country’s supreme court ruled that he should be released from prison due to his poor health and good behavior. He also served most of his life sentence since life sentences in Nepal are usually twenty years.

The French serial killer has been diagnosed with heart disease and will undergo medical assessments when he lands in France.

During an incident in 2017, the murderer was taken from his prison in Kathmandu to a hospital with the help of his much-younger wife. While at the hospital, he underwent a life-saving coronary operation, which means the doctors in Nepal worked hard to save the murderer’s life lest he died from a medical health condition.

“His wife has said he may need further surgery, and he will be closely monitored by doctors after he lands,” said the source close to the convicted serial killer.

Do you think the Nepalese government should have released this French serial killer, the Serpent, or should he have died behind bars for the crimes he committed?
