The young-looking Yoel Roth leads Twitter’s fact-checking department. Although he is supposed to have a non-biased job, he has a history of publishing rude, anti-Trump comments on the social media platform. The prior tweets from the Twitter executive were posted around 2017. And since Trump has vowed to take on Twitter’s fact-checking department after his tweets were exposed for their unfounded untruths, it has come out that Twitter uses the services of Yoel Roth to fact check people on the platform.
Trump has felt attacked by Twitter because Roth’s department fact-checked him. Trump has even gone so far as to blame Twitter for interfering in the upcoming 2020 election and for stifling free speech since his tweets were exposed for not containing factual information.
Roth’s history of anti-Trump tweets, including referring to his administration as similar to what it was like for the Nazis under Adolf Hitler. He also compared Trump’s Kellyanne Conway to Joseph Goebbels, who was the leader of Nazi propaganda campaigns. Roth also said that many fly-over states in America contain a lot of racist people.
Trump became infuriated with his beloved Twitter service after he suggested that California’s mail-in ballot initiative would increase voter fraud instances in the November election. This suggestion is unfounded.
Twitter found that Trump’s suggestion was “substantially fraudulent.” However, other outlets, including CNN and the Washington Post, found Twitter’s findings to be unsubstantiated.
This is the first time Twitter has taken decisive action in response to tweets by the president. Although the general public – including many Republicans – have called for Trump to get off Twitter, Twitter has taken a back seat and allowed the president to say anything he wanted to his millions of followers whether or not the statements were true or false.
In January 2017, Roth tweeted about how there were now “actual Nazis in the White House.” He also compared Conway to Goebbels, saying:
“’ Today on Meet The Press, we’re speaking with Joseph Goebbels about the first 100 days…’- What I hear whenever Kellyanne is on a news show.”
Roth has not posted criticisms of Trump recently. Most of his critiques came back in 2017 right after Trump was inaugurated into office.
On Wednesday, Kellyanne Conway took an interview with Fox & Friends and criticized Roth personally.
“This guy is constantly attacking Trump voters, Trump, Mitch McConnell. You name it. He’s the head of integrity at Twitter,” Conway said. “It’s horrible the way he looks at people who should otherwise have a free and clear platform on Twitter.”
Trump also attacked Twitter on Wednesday.
“Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down before we can ever allow this to happen,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Trump added, “Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!”
Not long after Trump tried to spread doubt about California’s secured mail-in ballots, Twitter directed people to a page that said: “‘Trump makes unsubstantiated claim that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud.”
